This small cabinet is a clock without the ability to give the time.
It has no front or back, and its inner works have come undone. However, its frame is intact.
At first glance, the buttons and charms within the cabinet appear to be mirrors of each other.
However, upon closer observation, each side presents its own narrative and context.
The workings of the clock have been replaced with an assortment of objects: jewels, fetishes, a detail from a "Hudson River School" painting, a detail of a portrait of a Renaissance man, and crystal balls.
Therefore, this clock can only give information about the past and the future, but not the present.
In the immortal words of the Queen of Hearts:
Jam tomorrow,
jam yesterday, but
never jam today!"
All of the pieces inside the clock face can be manipulated by the viewer, but shake as you will, it will never give you the time of day.
