"...Maubois" is a Box piece in the style of "The Story I Promis-ed to Tell You," (previous page)
The outside of the box, decorated with a very discrete brass brass plate, is engraved with the young French woman's name.
The exterior of the piece is rather sedate, other than for the ribbon and pearls used to prop the lid when opened. The cover reveals very little about its owner or its contents.
Once the box is unlocked and the lid is lifted, however, the viewer is invited to inspect 38 filled wells and a cache of pen nibs and an unmarked glass vial lying in a small box-within-a box.
The 38 wells are filled with enigmatic images and 3-dimen-sional items--some humerous, some ironic, some disturb-ing (e.g. a human tooth), etc.--all left for the viewers exploration and interpretations.
When opened, the underside of the box's lid is labeled "Contes de La Fontaine"...what stories spring forth from the young woman's fountain?
Note: This piece was worked and re-worked for 15 years and was finally completed it in early 2007.
